London Design Festival

It’s that time of year again where there is just so much going on in London. Before Children (BC) and when I was working full-time I always found it hard to prioritise which events to attend during the London Design Festival (god my life was hard back then – sigh) There were always so many openings to attend in the evenings (so many free drinks to consume!) Now I’ll be lucky to see a few things during the day with the kids and buying my own coffee. How times have changed. Here are just a few things I hope to go and see.

junction

Design Junction 18 – 20th September  The critically acclaimed designjunction presents the third edition of its flagship London show this September during the London Design Festival. designjunction, which last year attracted more than 17,000 visitors, will showcase the very best in furniture, lighting and product design from around the world, presenting an edited selection of leading global brands and emerging enterprises. designjunction showcases design against a stunning industrial backdrop, striking a balance between creative and commercial, while offering a much-needed alternative to the traditional trade show.

stair

I was at Tate Modern Last weekend and saw this under construction. Endless Stair  13 September – October 10 sees the London Design Festival reviving its longstanding relationship with the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) in a playful, yet technically ambitious public project to be installed with the powerful backdrop of one of the city’s best-loved landmarks, Tate Modern. Designed by dRMM architects

tent-london

Tent London 19 – 22 September – Old Truman BreweryConstantly evolving, always thought provoking; trade shows Tent London & Super Brands London have carved out an impressive reputation as an anchor of LDF, a beacon for anyone looking to discover the best contemporary design. The 11-acre East London hub is well known for presenting extraordinary interiors products from 240 established global brands, independents and undiscovered talents; as well as country/gallery showcases. The four-day event also includes a roster of inspiring talks, graduate show Brink, and engaging installations – Project Spaces and the Super Design Gallery. A firm festival favourite.

smug

Cage Smug  In celebration of London Design Festival 2013, SMUG will open its long awaited temporary eaterie, CAFE SMUG. From 14th – 22nd September, expect fresh coffee, juice, croissants and summer savories as well as cake and cookie of the day. And of course there will be new SMUG exclusives and collaborations too.

You can see the full programme here  and pick up a hard copy from the various venues.
